Origins and Development
The Labrador Retriever traces its roots to Newfoundland, Canada, where it was originally used by fishermen to retrieve fishing nets and escaped fish. In the late 19th century, Labradors were brought to England, where selective breeding refined the characteristics we know and admire today. Despite its name, the Labrador Retriever did not originate in Labrador, but rather in neighboring Newfoundland.
Physical Characteristics
