What We Do

Our work is focused on promoting proper grooming techniques, encouraging continued education, and creating opportunities for groomers to compete, grow, and represent Puerto Rico within the international canine community.
Grooming Competitions
FCPR grooming competitions are designed to showcase skill, precision, creativity, and respect for each dog’s breed standard.
Competitors are evaluated by qualified judges based on technical execution, balance, symmetry, difficulty, style, and the ability to enhance the natural beauty and structure of the dog.
Official competition categories include:
- Handstripping
- Spaniels, Setters & Golden Retriever
- Poodles
- Other FCI Purebred Scissoring Breeds
- Modified Salon Freestyle for FCI Purebred Dogs
Education & Seminars
Education is central to the mission of the Grooming Commission.
Through seminars, workshops, and training opportunities, the Commission helps groomers continue developing their knowledge of breed standards, coat care, grooming techniques, safety practices, and canine welfare.
These educational initiatives are designed for groomers at every level, from beginners to advanced professionals.
Canine Welfare First
The welfare of the dog is the highest priority in every FCPR grooming activity.
All competitions and educational events must provide a safe, clean, and appropriate environment for participating dogs, including access to water, proper lighting, adequate rest periods, safe handling, and conditions that protect dogs from stress, discomfort, or harm.
National Grooming Ranking
The FCPR Grooming Commission also supports the development of a national ranking system to recognize the top-performing groomers in Puerto Rico.
This ranking celebrates excellence by category and level, encourages continued participation, and helps identify groomers who may represent Puerto Rico in future national and international grooming competitions.
