Canine Therapy of Puerto Rico was established in 1991 under the sponsorship of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). Since then, the program has visited organizations and institutions dedicated to the physical and mental health and well-being of the people of Puerto Rico.
Specialized personnel evaluate and certify dogs that meet the established requirements and demonstrate the temperament and aptitude necessary to serve as canine therapy dogs. Each dog must successfully complete rigorous evaluations and pass a Basic Obedience course to help ensure the safety and well-being of all patients and participants.
